Privacy Policy

Bestie Backed (“we,” “us”) is a social recommendation app for movies, TV, and books. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to our website and our iOS, Android, and Apple TV apps.
Information we collect
- Account details. Your name and email address when you sign up, whether by email and password or through Google or Apple sign-in. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text.
- Profile photo. If you add one, we store it and show it to your besties next to your ratings and comments. You can change it any time, and it is deleted with your account.
- Your activity. The titles you rate, your star ratings, reviews, watchlist, season progress, badges, the besties you connect with, and the recommendations you send and receive.
- Notification tokens. If you turn on notifications, we store a device token so we can send you push notifications. You can turn this off any time.
- Apple TV sign-in. When you connect an Apple TV, we briefly store a one-time pairing code (it expires after 10 minutes) so your phone can link the TV to your account. The Apple TV keeps its sign-in in the device’s secure storage (Keychain) until you sign out.
- Basic technical data. Standard information your device sends when using an app, such as device type and app version, used to keep the service working.
How we use it
- To run the core features: showing your besties’ ratings, your feed, watchlist, and recommendations.
- To send notifications you have asked for, such as when a bestie rates, comments, or recommends something.
- To keep accounts secure and the service reliable.
What we share, and what we don’t
Bestie Backed is social by design: your ratings, reviews, and recommendations are visible to the besties you connect with. That sharing is the point of the app. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show third-party ads.
We use a small number of service providers to operate the app: hosting and database infrastructure, Google and Apple for optional sign-in, and content sources (such as The Movie Database, Google Books, and OMDb) to look up title details and artwork. These providers process data only to provide their service to us.
On Apple TV, choosing “Watch on” a streaming service or “Watch trailer” opens that service’s own app (for example Netflix or YouTube). We do not send those services any of your information; what they collect is covered by their own privacy policies.
Your choices
- Notifications: turn them on or off in the app or in your device settings.
- Delete your account: open your profile in the app, scroll to the bottom, and tap Delete account (full steps at bestiebacked.com/delete-account). This permanently removes your account and associated data right away. You can also email us at the address below and we will do it for you.
- Access or correct your data: contact us and we will help.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data, except anything we are legally required to keep.
Children
Bestie Backed is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will post the new version here with a revised date.
